Rollins Band to Perform Songs from 'Rise Above' WM3 Benefit Album at Five Shows in Los Angeles Area
December 4, 2002
Henry Rollins, who recently spearheaded the Black Flag benefit album Rise Above,
will appear with the Rollins Band at several Los Angeles-area venues to perform songs from the
album benefiting the West Memphis 3 (www.wm3.org).
The schedule includes performances at the following venues:
Amoeba Records in LA - Dec. 3rd
The Casbah in San Diego - Dec. 5th
The Ventura Theater in LA - Dec. 17th
The Whiskey in LA - Dec. 18th
The Glass House in Pomona - Dec. 19th
This will be the first time Rollins has played or sung any
of these songs live in over eighteen years.
Henry commented, "We were having such a good time playing the songs,
we figured we would do
some shows to rock out and raise the level of awareness about the record.
It's been sounding
good so we're psyched."
The Rise Above benefit album was released on October 8th and includes
a slew of artists (mentioned below) who gave their time and effort to cover songs by the
legendary band Black Flag.
Proceeds from the album will help raise legal funds for Damien Echols,
Jessie Misskelley and
Jason Baldwin, otherwise known as the West Memphis 3.
The twenty-four song CD on Sanctuary Records features Henry Rollins, Chuck D, Keith Morris, Iggy
Pop, Neil Fallon (Clutch), Cedric Bixler Zavala (The Mars Volta), Jeff Moreira (Poison The Well),
Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Exene Cervenka, Nick Oliveri (Queens of the Stone Age), Hank III, Dean
Ween (Ween), Mike Patton, Ice T, Tom Araya (Slayer), Lemmy, Chuck Dukowsky, Tim Armstrong
and Lars Fredericksen (Rancid), Inger Lorre, Kira Roessler and a bonus track from Ryan Adams.
