Shaggy's Wildly Successful Year
Plus, Hotshot Ultramix CD to Be Released February 12, 2002
December 19, 2001 Coming off as good a year as any artist could dream of, Shaggy is looking back on an
impressive catalog of accomplishments. His latest album Hotshot, released in
August 2000, has been certified as America's best selling album of 2001, with
more than six-million copies sold (beating out releases by 'N Sync, Staind,
Linkin Park and Enya). Moreover, Hotshot has also sold over four-million albums
internationally, making for a grand total of more than 10 million albums sold
worldwide.
In February, MCA Records will release
Hotshot Ultramix, a collection of remixes of songs that appeared on the
Hotshot album as well as three previously unreleased tracks. Shaggy worked
with some of the best remixers in the business including Punch, Sting
International, J.C. Moreno, Gordon Dukes, Christopher "Longman Productions"
Birch and Tony CD Kelly. Hotshot Ultramix includes remixes of "It Wasn't Me,"
"Angel," "Dance and Shout," "Hope," and more.
Currently Shaggy is touring the world, hitting places such as South
Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the U.K. He was honored with
two Billboard Music Awards at ceremonies held in Las Vegas earlier this month where he took home the awards for "Male Artist of the Year" and "Male Album Artist of the Year." Shaggy is up for two American Music Awards ("Favorite Male Artist - Pop or Rock" and "Favorite Artist - Rap/Hip-Hop") as well as the "Internet Artist of the Year" award which is decided by the public. Shaggy will be performing on the American Music Awards which airs on January 9th.
Shaggy also formed his own label this year, the Big Yard Music Group,
which is the production company co-founded by Shaggy and his long time manager
Robert Livingston. The first release from the label will be a new album by
Rayvon (who sings with Shaggy on "Angel."). Titled My Bad, the album
arrives in stores in March 2002. Currently, Shaggy is featured on the new
Toni Braxton album, teaming with the vocalist on "Christmas in Jamaica," and
also appears on the NOW Christmas release on a song with the Big Yard Family
called "All We Need Is Love (Christmas in the Yard)."
