Wyclef Jean Announces All-star Lineup for Historic Carnegie Hall Concert to Benefit Wyclef Jean Foundation

Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child, Charlotte Church, Third World to Perform

– Jean is the First Hip-Hop Artist to Headline Carnegie Hall –

December 5, 2000 – Wyclef Jean has announced the star-studded line-up for his January 19th extravaganza at Carnegie Hall to benefit the Wyclef Jean Foundation. Jean, making history as the first hip-hop artist to headline this legendary venue, will be joined by artists including Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child, Charlotte Church and Third World as well as his gifted child musicians, "Clef's Kids." The performance will showcase a revue of musical eras from the 1930s through the present day and promises to be one of the music industry's most phenomenal events of the new year. This event, the second in a series of fund raisers comprising two concerts and an exclusive party, enables the Foundation to raise a significant sum and heighten public awareness and support of its contributions toward musical education for children and young adults.

The Wyclef Jean Foundation is a non-profit organization with a primary mission to donate musical therapy, instruments, and lessons to children around the world. Wyclef Jean established the Foundation in 1998, and since then has gained national and international recognition for his dedication. This year's unique project, "Clef's Kids," is a performing arts sponsorship program in which NYC children, chosen for their gifts in music and the performing arts, receive a new instrument, private lessons in their field, and have the opportunity to perform with Wyclef at Carnegie Hall.

Born in Haiti and raised in Brooklyn, Wyclef Jean is a man with a past rich in family, church, and music. He has become one of the most respected names in the music business – performer, songwriter, producer, and role model. Jean, with Lauryn Hill and Praz, received two Grammy awards for The Score, his second album with the Fugees. His 1997 Columbia Records solo album, Carnival, received a Grammy nomination, and his current album, The Ecleftic – 2 Sides II A Book, has spawned the hit single "911" featuring Mary J. Blige. Jean has also produced for top names in the business such as Whitney Houston and Carlos Santana.

The Wyclef Jean Foundation has received generous support from this year's sponsors including Armani Exchange, Parasuco, Giorgio Armani, Schieffelin & Somerset Co., Hilfiger, Sandals, Guinness, Coca Cola and Papermotion who created its official website.

Last year, Wyclef collaborated with U2's Bono to create "New Day," the best-selling anthem of Net Aid. The two stars presented their collaboration to the United Nations in New York last September.

All profits from the Carnegie Hall concert will go the the Wyclef Jean Foundation, helping to bring promise to the lives of children.
