Diana Krall Goes Platinum with When I Look in Your Eyes
Vocalist/Pianist's Verve Debut Is First Platinum Album For The Verve Music Group
November 27, 2000 Diana Krall's When I Look in Your Eyes
has achieved platinum status, selling over one million copies nationwide. The
album, the vocalist/pianist's debut on the legendary Verve Records label, was
just certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and
is the Verve Music Group's first platinum album.
Released on June 8th, 1999, When I Look In Your Eyes has spent 62 weeks
in the #1 position on Billboard's Jazz Chart. It earned both the Best Jazz
Vocal Performance and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical awards at this
year's Grammys, in addition to being nominated for Album of the Year.
When I Look in Your Eyes breaks away from the standard piano trio
setting of Krall's previous releases; several cuts feature the graceful
orchestrations of maestro Johnny Mandel. The songs range from the playful "Popsicle Toes" to the seductive "Do It Again."
The album includes the hits "Let's Face the Music and Dance" and the bossa
nova reworking of "I've Got You Under My Skin" in addition to Krall's
interpretations of such standards as "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and
"Devil May Care." The album was produced by Grammy-winner and Verve Music
Group Chairman Tommy LiPuma.
The album's success was augmented by Krall's
extensive worldwide tour schedule, a Summer 2000 tour with Tony Bennett, and
high profile appearances on such television programs as "The Today Show," "The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Show with David Letterman," and "Late Night
with Conan O'Brien."
Krall is currently working with Tommy LiPuma in selecting material for her
next Verve album, which is tentatively scheduled for a late Summer 2001
release.
