New Craig David Album Due Nov. 19th

October 1, 2002 — Craig David will release Slicker than Your Average November 19th. The CD follows David's platinum-selling debut, Born to Do It.

The first single off the new album will be "What's Your Flava?", co-written by David and produced by newcomers Marshall and Trell (AKA the remix team operating under the Ignorants moniker). "What's Your Flava?" will begin its run at radio October 7th. The song successfully delivers the soulful vocals and sly grooves of the young U.K.-based vocalist/songwriter.

The companion video for "What's Your Flava?" -- shot on location in the Czech Republic's capital city, Prague, and directed by Little X -- features David in a cinematic send-up of one of his favorite tales, the fable of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Like the book and movie versions on which the storyline is based, the video traces the journey of four "contest winners" visiting a mythical mastermind (played by David) for a guided tour of his factory. But, instead of candy, guests in Craig David's world are treated to a guided tour of a music factory -- one which features, among other things, cages full of cash, lush purple bedrooms, and "Oompah-Loompah" girls dressed in white cat-suits and sunglasses.

On Slicker than Your Average, David combines elements of R&B, hip-hop, pop, electronica, and rock. In addition to Marshall and Trell, the album finds David working with producers Soulshock & Karlin (Arena magazine calls them "probably the best R&B producers in the world"), and Craig's longtime studio collaborator Mark Hill. Among the album's highlights is David's collaboration with Sting on the track, "Rise & Fall" -- a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of stardom.

Craig David's first Wildstar/Atlantic album, Born to Do It -- which has spent more than 60 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart -- featured two Top 10 hits, "Fill Me In" and "7 Days," plus the Top 20 hit, "Walking Away."

Born to Do It has exceeded the seven-million sales mark worldwide. David has racked up an array of kudos around the world, including a 2001 Grammy nomination for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance." The video for "Fill Me In" earned him two trophies at last year's Billboard Music Video Awards, for "Best Dance New Artist Clip" and "Best R&B New Artist Clip."
