Late Show With David Letterman Drummer Anton Fig Gives Away His Drums,
Releases New Record
October 1, 2002
Anton Fig, best known for his 15+ years as
the drummer on "The Late Show with David Letterman," is giving away his drums.
An avid surfer, Anton has a love and respect for the ocean and is donating for
auction on Ebay a set of drums used on "The Late Show." Other items, including
"Late Show" tickets, memorabilia and music are also up for auction. All
proceeds from these auctions go to benefit the Ocean Conservancy.
Marching to the beat of his own drum, Anton has just released his first solo
CD, Figments, on his independent label, Planula Records. "I wanted to
incorporate the entire range of my musical influences, from rock to South
African traditionals, with detours in between," says Fig. "The only way I
could produce such a diverse record was to do it myself. Making music is
about creativity and it followed that I should make use of all the colors in
my musical palette. People don't restrict themselves as listeners to a single
style of music, why should a musician?"
The result of this open outlook is an album where artists from all points
on the musical compass come together to support Anton's vision. Guest
artists include Brian Wilson, Ace Frehley, Sebastian Bach, Richie Havens,
Ivan Neville, Al Kooper, and others.
