Mary J. Blige Reaches Her First Number-One Single
"Family Affair" Hits #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and National R&B Charts
October 30, 2001 Mary J. Blige is right back where she belongs: on top of the music world with her hit "Family Affair," which reached #1 on both Billboard's Hot 100 and National R&B charts this week. This marks the first number-one single of Mary's career.
The single, produced by Dr. Dre, is the first chart-topper off the
Grammy-winning singer's latest platinum-certified album No More Drama, which debuted at #2 earlier this fall. Mary will launch a national tour next year.
Mary performed "Family Affair" at the Radio Music Awards in Las Vegas,
held October 26, and also appeared the same night on Lifetime Channel's "Women
Rock" performing her next single "No More Drama." The Lifetime Channel also
recently aired a poignant "Intimate Portrait" on Mary J. Blige. No More Drama
features guest artists such as Missy Elliott, Eve, and Lenny Kravitz. Other
producers who worked on the album include Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Rockwilder,
Chucky Thompson, The Neptunes and Swizz Beatz. Among Mary's other
best-selling albums over the years are Mary, the #1 Share My World, and What's the 411?
