Afroman Goes Global

October 11, 2001 – Afroman's smash single "Because I Got High" is indeed getting high on charts around the globe. The single, off Afroman's debut disc The Good Times, is at the top of the charts in New Zealand, #2 in Australia, #4 in Sweden, #5 in Holland, and #6 in Denmark.

"Because I Got High" is already on the move in Germany (where it's translated roughly as "Da ich hoch geworden bin") France ("Puisque Je suis devenu haut") and the United Kingdom.

Afroman is currently on tour in the United States through October. In early November, Afroman will travel to Holland to film the video for "Crazy Rap," the second single from The Good Times. "Crazy Rap" will be released to radio on October 29.

First gaining attention as a single off the motion picture soundtrack to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, this summer "Because I Got High" was the #1 most requested track on radio stations in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Washington D.C., San Diego, Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Orlando, Denver, Tucson, Norfolk and more.

"Never before in my career have I seen a record react like this," said rock radio WBCN assistant Program Director Steven Strick. "#1 Phones by far. It is bigger than anything else we have on the air," echoed WXRK Music Director Mike Peer.

This summer "Because I Got High" rocked U.S. crossover/pop radio as well. "#1 Phones after one day," says KBTT Program Director Big Mamma. WJFX Hot 107.9 Program Director Phil Becker summed it up with, "After 19 spins this is the #1 record on the station, with 20x more requests than any other song on the air. I can promise you that Afroman will out-request any song on any station. If you took all the requests for Slim Shady, Shaggy, City High or any other track & they would still not beat Afroman."
