Lower East Side Rock: A Black Crowes Update
October 30, 2000 Working with producer Don Was for the first time, the Black Crowes are busy recording their V2 debut album in an unlikely location: an old Yiddish musical theatre on New York's Lower East Side that's been converted to a recording studio. It's an environment that suits the now-New York-based band well. The acoustics there are remarkable, and the recording sessions are taking place on the theatre's stage, bringing an organic live feel to the mood. In true Black Crowes fashion, they've made
the theatre their own, placing candles, Christmas lights, a mirror ball, posters and big couches throughout the space. The band has already recorded some 18 songs, and fans can expect an expansive, melodically full sound that accents the songs of brothers Chris and Rich Robinson. Look for the as-yet-untitled album (the band's sixth overall) to be released in the spring of 2001.
