Pearl Jam Set New Billboard Top 200 Record
Five Double Discs from Their Live Bootleg Series Enter the Chart Simultaneously
First Time in History Any Artist Has Had More Than Two Albums Debut in the Same Week
October 4, 2000 On September 26th, Pearl Jam took the unprecedented
step of releasing 25 double live CDs from their recent European tour.
The bootleg series idea was initially conceived by the band as a way
to provide fans, who were purchasing high-priced, low-quality
unofficial bootlegs with an alternative. September 5th, the double
CDs were made available on the band's fanclub website (tenclub.net
and pearljam.com). With five of the live albums entering the
Billboard Top 200 simultaneously, it marks not only the first time
more than two titles debut on the Billboard chart but the first time
any artist has had more than one live album on the chart at the same
time.
A week after release, 5 of the 25 double CDs have made their debut
the Billboard Top 200 chart:
Katowice, Poland (16) - entered the chart at # 103
Milan, Italy (20) - entered the chart at # 125
Verona, Italy (19) - entered the chart at # 134
London, England (5) - entered the chart at # 137
Hamburg, Germany (23) - entered the chart at # 175
