New TLC Album Due Out November 12
First Single 'Quickie' to Hit Radio October 21
September 13, 2002
TLC one of the more successful female groups of all time will release their new album, 3D, November 12. As the follow-up to their 9˝ million
selling FanMail album (1999), the new Arista album is a work that Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas are releasing as a loving tribute to their beloved friend and
group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, who died in a car accident earlier this year.
T-Boz and Chilli felt it was important to go ahead and complete the album they
recorded with Lisa, who had come up with the title and blueprinted what will be the visuals for
the project. T-Boz and Chilli recently announced the formation of a scholarship fund in Lisa's
honor at the MTV Video Music Awards, where Lisa was remembered for her contributions.
The album features collaborations with producers Dallas Austin (on the title track and
"Quickie"); Timbaland & Missy Elliott ("Dirty"); Rodney Jerkins ("Turntable); Babyface & Darryl
Simmons ("Hands Up"); Edmund "Eddie Hustle" Clement ("Girl Talk"); The Neptunes ("In Your
Arms Tonight"); and Organized Noize ("Give It To Me While It's HOT"). The album's first single,
"Quickie," will impact radio October 21.
The new project marks the fourth album from TLC, who have sold over 27 million albums
and nine million singles worldwide, won five Grammy awards and six Soul Train awards as well
as various American Music Awards, MTV Music Awards, Billboard Awards and a Brit Award.
TLC came onto the music scene in 1993 with the quadruple-platinum album
Oooooh…On The TLC Tip, which featured the hit singles "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," "Baby Baby
Baby" and "What About Your Friends." 1994's CrazySexyCool album sold over 11 million copies
in the U.S. and broke the group into the mainstream with the massive hit single and video "Waterfalls."
That album was highlighted by the hits "Creep," "Red Light Special" and "Diggin' On You."
Their most recent album FanMail entered the charts at #1 and stayed there for eight weeks and spun off
back-to-back #1 singles "No Scrubs" and "Unpretty."
Beyond the success, they've always been outspoken and forthright in their music and
style, whether it be by promoting safe sex, setting fashion trends, or raising money for Sickle Cell
Anemia.
