New CDs Due Out from Bruce Hornsby, Lenny Kravtiz, Paul Simon
September 22, 2000
Bruce Hornsby, Here Come the Noisemakers (RCA), October 24th
Bruce Hornsby reaches a new milestone in his storied 15-year career with the release of "Here Come the Noisemakers," the singer/pianist's first-ever live recording. The
2-CD 18-track album is set for release October 24th and was recorded at various concerts between late 1998 and late 1999, including the Woodstock festival, episodes of PBS's "Austin City Limits'" and BET's "Jazz Central." The album spans Hornsby's entire music
career and is, according to Hornsby himself, "the best record we've made to
date."
Produced by Hornsby and Wayne Pooley, Here Come the Noisemakers
showcases the many musical facets of Hornsby and his band. The title
originated with a fan who regularly attended Bruce Hornsby Band shows (wishing
they would play more Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes) during the '70s at the Cave, a
Virginia Beach club the band often headlined. Songs include "Stander on the
Mountain," "Great Divide," "Red Plains," "The Way It Is," "Jacob's Ladder,"
"The Valley Road," "The End of the Innocence," "Spider Fingers," and "King of
the Hill."
Hornsby first drew attention with the title track from his triple-platinum
debut album The Way It Is. That led to a Grammy for Best New Artist in
1986, and was the first of a string of hits, including "Mandolin Rain," "Every
Little Kiss," and "The Valley Road." While his many guest appearances have
been impressive including co-writing and performing on Don Henley's
Grammy-winning smash "The End of the Innocence," a stint with the Grateful
Dead and sessions for Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin and Bela Fleck, among
others Hornsby's own releases (including 4 gold and 2 platinum) have been
consistently eclectic and captivating and have met with wide critical acclaim.
They include "Scenes From The Southside" (1988), "A Night on the Town" (1990),
"Harbor Lights" (1993), "Hot House" (1995) and "Spirit Trail" (1998).
Bruce has been involved in a flurry of activity. While performing with
the Other Ones on this summer's Further Festival, he has also contributed
pieces to two special tribute albums. "Darlin' Corey," the lead track from
"Big Mon," saluting bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe. The other is "Backhand"
the lead track from the Keith Jarrett tribute album "As Long As You're Living
Yours." Bruce also wrote and performs "Shadowland" which is the end title
song in the upcoming Spike Lee motion picture, Bamboozled.
Paul Simon You're the One (Warner Bros.), October 3rd
You're the One, a new album from singer/songwriter Paul Simon will be released by Warner Bros. Records October 3rd. While Paul's voice has
become more powerful with time, the subtlety and phrasing of his vocals gives
listeners an intimate glimpse of what's been on Paul Simon's mind and the
songs -- story-oriented like his earlier works -- have the lyrical intensity
and beauty of Simon's later writing.
The album features Simon's 10-piece band with whom he has worked
over the years, and whom he toured with on last summer's hugely successful
outing with Bob Dylan. The release of You're the One will be followed by a
fall tour slated to begin on October 16th in Stockholm, Sweden. The tour will
cover 29 shows in 13 cities across Europe and the U.S. and will include

Lenny Kravitz, Greatest Hits (Virgin), October 24th
Simply titled "Greatest Hits," the album will feature fifteen international hits from
Kravitz' ten-year career: "American Woman," "Fly Away," "Black Velveteen," "I
Belong To You," "Let Love Rule," "Stand By My Woman," "Mr. Cab Driver,"
"Always On The Run," "It Ain't Over Till It's Over," "Are You Gonna Go My
Way," "Believe," "Heaven Help," "Rock and Roll Is Dead," and "Can't Get You
Off My Mind."
A new track, "Again," will be the next single and hit radio September 11. A video for "Again" was recently shot in New York by the acclaimed director Paul Hunter, who collaborated with Lenny on videos for both "American Woman" and "Fly Away" (the latter clip earned Kravitz two 1999 MTV Video Music Award nominations).
Along with this new track, Greatest Hits features many of Kravitz's career milestones. Most significant among those is a pair of Grammy-winning songs:
"Fly Away" and "American Woman." "Fly Away" earned Kravitz a 1999 Grammy for
Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male (the first ever for an African-American),
and became the first single to top Billboard's Modern, Active and Album Rock
charts in the same week. "American Woman," his version of the Guess Who
classic, earned Kravitz his second consecutive Grammy for Best Rock Vocal
Performance, Male.
