Boyz II Men's First Album in Three Years, Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya, Debuts This Week as the #4 Pop Album in the U.S.
Group Member Wanya Morris Makes Acting Debut Friday, September 22, 2000
September 22, 2000 Boyz II Men (Nathan Morris, Michael McCary, Shawn Stockman and Wanya
Morris) have made their return felt, as the Philadelphia foursome's first album in three years, titled Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya (Universal), debuted this week as the #4 Pop album in the U.S. Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya hit stores September 12, 2000.
The CD, like the group's first album, Coolyhighharmony, was written and produced by Boyz II Men. Their first single, "Pass You By," released to radio June 9, 2000, was consistently the most added and requested single.
In other Boyz II Men related news, group member Wanya Morris will make
his acting debut Friday, September 22, 2000, when the motion picture,
Uninvited Guest, hits theaters across the country. The film, a suspense
thriller, is a Picture Me Rollin Production, distributed by Tri-Mark Pictures.
In addition to Wanya, the film stars Mekhi Pheifer ("Soul Food," "Clockers"),
Melinda Williams (Showtime's "Soul Food," "The Wood" and "Dangerous Minds"),
Mari Mallow ("One Life To Live," "How To Be A Player"), and Mel Jackson
("Soul Food" and "Dag," one of NBC's new shows). Veteran actress Kim Fields
makes a special guest appearance.
Boyz II Men, who have sold over 60,000,000 albums worldwide, have won
6 Grammys, 7 American Music Awards, the World Music Award, the Nickelodeon
"Kids Choice" Award, and 6 Soul Train Music Awards, including "The Sammy
Davis, Jr., Entertainer of the Year" Award for Outstanding Achievement.
However, Boyz II Men's community outreach and charitable work is as
outstanding as their professional achievements. They have made enviable
contributions to various causes and charities throughout this country,
including the "Make a Wish" Foundation," "Big Brother/Big Sisters," "The Boys
and Girls Clubs of America" and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). They
have participated in the "Grammy in Schools" Program, VH1's "Save the Music"
Program, "Stay in School" programs, anti-drug and teen mentoring programs and,
have fed and contributed to programs for the homeless.
Through their many charitable activities, Boyz II Men have gone beyond the
bounds of musical expertise, by illustrating the importance of using influence
to help focus attention to some of the health and social problems which plague
our communities. When performing in cities, they invite at-risk youth in the
area to their concerts, they visit hospitals, schools and youth organizations
and, on several occasions, the group has hosted basketball games where monies
raised have been contributed to local charities.
And, as a result of this, several big city mayors, including Rudolph
Guliani, Mayor of New York, proclaimed September 12, 2000, as "Boyz II
Men Day" in their respective cities, to recognize the group's professional
achievements, community outreach and charitable work. Others include: Richard
M. Daley, Mayor, Chicago; Marc Morial, Mayor, New Orleans; Bill Campbell,
Mayor, Atlanta; Ron Kirk, Mayor, Dallas; Lee Brown, Mayor, Houston; Anthony
Williams, Mayor, District of Columbia; and Wellington Webb, Mayor, Denver.
Boyz II Men held a press conference September 12, 2000 at Planet Hollywood in New York City to discuss the release of the album and to meet, greet, and sign autographs for fans.
September 11, 2000 Boyz II Men performed at NYC's Beacon Theatre. The proceeds from the event helped to restore Music Education Programs for Students.
