Deftones' White Pony to Be Re-released with New Track

September 18, 2000 – Maverick Recording Co. announced that it will re-release Deftones' White Pony, the group's third album, October 3. The album will have a new song, "Back To School (Mini-Maggit)" added to the track listing, and sport new CD cover art. White Pony was originally released June 20. Those who already purchased the CD can get the new song for free (see below).

According to Deftones' vocalist Chino Moreno, "'Back To School' was a song we had originally wanted to put on White Pony, but we never completed it. When we were in Los Angeles last month, we went into the studio and finished it. We took it to Maverick, and they were so blown away, they wanted to release it as our next single and re-release the album with it added."

If you listen to "Pink Maggit," the final song on White Pony, you'll hear the original, moodier version of "Back To School (Mini-Maggit)." "That's about as far as we got with it when we were recording the album," said Moreno. The new, completed song has searing guitars, drop-dead-heavy bass and drums, and Chino's urgent vocals right in your face.

Deftones will be in Los Angeles this week to begin work with director Paul Hunter (Eminem, Puff Daddy, Will Smith) on the promo video for "Back To School (Mini-Maggit)." While not giving anything away, suffice it to say that the video, set in a typical American school, will score one for the freaks and geeks returning to classrooms this fall.

For those half-million fans who have already added White Pony to their CD collection, "Back To School (Mini-Maggit)" will be made available to them for free. As White Pony was originally released as an enhanced CD, fans can now access the song by inserting their White Pony CD into their CD-ROM drive, clicking on the "Worldwide" section, and following the instructions from there.

Deftones kick off their "Back To School" U.S. tour Friday, October 13 in Seattle, WA, and continue on through the first week of December.
