September 18, 2000 – The Indigo Girls celebrate their 15-year anniversary by releasing Indigo Girls: A Retrospective October 3, a 16 track career-overview that includes two newly recorded songs, "Leaving," "Devotion," as well as such Indigo classics as "Closer to Fine," "Galileo," and "Shame on You."

September 30, the Indigo Girls embark on their fourth "Honor the Earth" Tour. The tour will cover the northern and western United States. The campaign takes its direction from Indian communities and their traditional leaders. The program funds Native grassroots environmental and cultural preservation projects in the Americas, raising consciousness and action around issues that affect us all. This year focuses on two watershed issues: the dumping of nuclear waste on Native lands and the continuing siege of the last remaining free-range buffalo herd in Yellowstone National Park.

"Honor the Earth 2000" features an all star line up, including Grammy Award-winning artists Indigo Girls and Bonnie Raitt, with special guests Joan Baez, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Indigenous, Edwin McCain, and Vonda Shepard, among others to be announced.
