Clarence Clemons and Band to Record Live CD at Stone Pony During "Sax in the City" Tour
August 17, 2001 Just when you thought the Big Man couldn't possibly upstage his recent world tour with "the Boss," Clarence Clemons announces the recording of a live CD and seven dates
to showcase his new tunes.
The first recording of this yet-untitled double CD will take place live and will be engineered by Toby Scott, who recently earned platinum status for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's Live in New York. Supporting Clarence's vocals, sax and percussion will be his twelve-piece band of guitar, bass, violin, double keyboards, four horns and even more percussion. "They're 12 pieces of Latin rock 'n' soul,
an eclectic collection of music," explains Clemons.
The live CD will be recorded at a place Clemons has earned the right to
call home, Asbury Park, N.J.'s own historic Stone Pony. "Greetings Asbury Park from South Florida, it's party time," Clarence said. Studio recording of the second CD will begin when the band returns to South
Florida.
This work in progress became a vision for Clarence ever since teaming up
with John Colby, music director of the ESPY Awards. "John has quickly become
one of my closest musical allies. I am truly grateful to have him with me
making this recording," says Clemons.
Clarence Clemons and Band will begin their tour with two shows August 29th featuring legendary rock drummer Carmine Appice at B.B. Kings' on West 42nd Street, New York City. Next up, the Westbury Music Fair, New York, August 30th and then, September 1st and 2nd, Clarence Clemons will
return to his Asbury Park, NJ, Stone Pony to make history there one more time.
Fans camped all night in front of the Stone Pony July 30th in
anticipation of buying tickets for the Labor Day weekend show. Tickets are
still available through Ticketmaster or at the Stone Pony box office and other
outlets.
