The Damned to Release New CD, Grave Disorder, August 21
August 15, 2001 Legendary British rock band the Damned will release their first new album in 14 years, August 21st. It arrives in U.S. on Nitro Records, the CA-based label helmed by Offspring frontman Dexter Holland.
Holland said: "The Damned really defined punk rock in my eyes. I am a huge
Damned fan. The Offspring even covered their song 'Smash It Up.' One of the
many advantages of starting a label is it gives you the opportunity to
release music by your favorite bands and the Damned being on Nitro is a
perfect example of that for me."
Featuring founding band members Captain Sensible (guitar) and Dave Vanian
(lead vocals), the lineup also includes bassist Patricia Morrison (ex-Gun
Club, Sisters of Mercy, the Bags), drummer Pinch (ex-English Dogs, Janus
Stark) and keyboardist Monty Oxy Moron. Said Vanian: "Grave Disorder is a testament to the deviate underbelly of pop culture -- that hidden gem on your CD rack that you are compelled to play and yet don't understand."
This fall, the Damned plan to tour North America in support of the CD. The tour will begin September 21st in Canada and move into the US shortly thereafter through November. Specific dates and venues will be announced shortly.
Most recently, The Damned performed as special surprise guests at the Joey Ramone 50th Birthday Bash in New York City this past May. Captain Sensible will be heard as the only guest vocalist on a track of the yet unreleased solo Joey Ramone CD.
Track titles on Grave Disorder are "Democracy?" (first single), "Song.com,"
"Thrill Kill," "She," "Lookin for Action," "Would You Be So Hot," "Absinthe,"
"Amen," "Neverland," "The End of Time," "Obscene," "W," and "Beauty of the
Beast." The CD was produced and mixed by Grammy Award winner David Bianco
(Tom Petty, Teenage Fan Club, Del Amitri, Rollins Band, Buffalo Tom, Afghan
Whigs).
Since the release of their debut album, Damned, Damned, Damned in 1977,
the Damned have epitomized the genre of British punk rock with their unique records and notorious live shows. They introduced America to UK punk
during their U.S. tour in 1977, instantly
earning them a firm spot in a short list of innovators.
