Powerman 5000 Delay the Release of Anyone for Doomsday? and Postpone Fall Tour to Accommodate New Songs to Be Featured on the Album
August 14, 2001 Powerman 5000 have delayed the release of their new album Anyone for Doomsday?. Originally set to hit the streets August 28, it will now be released in the near future to accommodate the new songs the band has decided to include.
While Powerman 5000 realize that this decision precipitates the
postponement of their fall tour, they strongly feel that fans should get to
hear the best Powerman 5000 album possible. Lead singer/songwriter Spider
One elaborates: "I've learned that I'm the kind of artist who doesn't work well on deadline.
As we were nearing completion of the album in the studio, I was continuing
to write songs that I felt belonged on Anyone for Doomsday?. At that point,
we should've put the brakes on the project, taking the proper time to finish
these new songs and record them. But because the album was scheduled for
release in connection with our fall tour, we felt pressure to deliver
Doomsday on deadline -- all of which was causing the band and I great agony.
So in the interest of releasing a work that we feel is truly representative
of Powerman 5000, we've delayed the release of Doomsday.
"In the end, you have to go with your gut and I know we're making the right
decision. At the same time, I want to extend my apologies to all the bands
who were set to tour with us this fall: Saliva, Machinehead, Halfcocked and
Stereomud. We know we've wreaked havoc on their schedules and hope to tour
with them at some point in the future.
"We also want to express our sincerest apologies to the fans who were
counting on the August 28 release as well as everyone who bought tickets to
the early shows that went on sale. We'll see everyone soon." Tickets
already purchased for these concerts will be refunded at the point of
purchase.
At the same time, Powerman 5000 -- Spider One, bassist Dorian 27, guitarists
Adam 12 and M.33 and drummer Al 3 -- are climbing the rock chart with
Doomsday's first radio track "Bombshell," which will also be featured on
the soundtrack album Tough Enough, due out October 2.
The band
has completed an elaborate video for "Bombshell" with directors the
Brothers Strause.
