Burning Spear Kicks Off Grammy Celebration Tour as Singer Erykah Badu Makes Surprise Appearance Joining the Reggae Legend on Stage

August 24, 2000 – In celebration of his first Grammy win for Reggae Album of the Year, Calling Rastafari (Rounder/Heartbeat), the legendary Burning Spear and his band kicked off a 75+ summer tour in New York recently. Fueling the SRO party atmosphere at Irving Plaza, reknown songstress, Erykah Badu made a surprise appearance and joined Spear in the performance of his classic "Jah No Dead."

"I've been sometimes surprised at the artists who have approached me to perform together," says Spear of the appearance. "The vibe was right with us and I think we really moved the audience which is always my intention. I like giving people music they can feel and remember in their hearts."

Burning Spear, whose career spans 34 albums, is widely considered to be the grand master of reggae, a living father of roots music whose groove led to defining the genre. Offering an uplifting socially conscious message and songs to move by, Spear has consistently created immense community spirit as he goes. Spear, who appears with his Burning Band and a full horn section, continues his sell-out Grammy celebration tour through November.

Additionally, a pay-per-view webcast of Burning Spear's performance at the House of Blues in Los Angeles will air on Friday, September 28 beginning at 6:00pm PST and running for 24 hours. Consumers can tap in at anytime during the 24-hr period to pay for and view the concert.
