"The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards" Will Air as Scheduled on UPN August 29
The Source Regrets the Violence During Taping of August 22 Event and Will Complete Program with Post-Taped Segments
August 24, 2000 – "The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards," which were cut short when violence erupted during the taping Tuesday night (August 22) at the Pasadena Civic Center in Pasadena, California, will air for the second consecutive broadcast on UPN, it was announced today by David Mays, founder and publisher of The Source. With the majority of the show completed, Mays and UPN executives will add several remote performance and awards segments to finish the special, which UPN will air as scheduled on August 29, from 8-10 p.m. ET/PT.
In commenting on the chaos, Mays stated, "It is regrettable that the actions of a few individuals
disrupted an evening which seeks to celebrate the music and unity of the hip-hop community. The Source does not condone violence of any kind and over the years has worked hard to dispel negative images associated with hip-hop."
