The Scorpions to Perform in Four U.S. Cities with Full Orchestra in September
EMI Classics Album with Berlin Philharmonic to Be Released August 29
August 15, 2000 Based on the international success
of their new album, a collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra,
famed rock group, the Scorpions will perform in four U.S. cities next month
with a full orchestra (see below for cities and dates).
The Scorpions will tour to promote their upcoming album, Moment of Glory,
to be released in the USA on August 29 (EMI Classics). The record is a
collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, recognized since 1882 as
the most prestigious orchestra in the world. Five years in the making, this
collaboration marks the first time in its 118-year history that the Berlin
Philharmonic has performed a crossover piece.
Conducted and arranged by Christian Kolonovits (3 Tenors), the album
contains eight Scorpions hits, including the classic "Wind of Change" and
"Hurricane 2000," also known as "Rock You Like A Hurricane." The album also
features two brand new tracks, including "Moment of Glory," which served as
the official anthem for the recent Expo 2000 World Fair in Germany. The other
is a soaring duet between singer Klaus Meine and Lyn Liechty, singing the
Diane Warren ballad, "Here In My Heart." Other guests include Ray Wilson from
Genesis, adding vocals for "Big City Nights," and Italian singer, Zucchero,
joining on "Send Me an Angel."
In June, the two groups came together in front of the world's top
dignitaries for a performance to celebrate the opening of the Expo 2000 World
Fair, the biggest global event staged in Germany in thirty years. The concert
was a tremendous success, and the record was released in Europe shortly
afterwards. In just three weeks, Moment of Glory has reached the Top Five on
the charts in four countries and has earned gold status.
The Scorpions formed in 1965 and became a pioneer of hard rock. They
released 17 records, with 1984's Love at First Sting becoming one of the
most successful albums in rock history, including the classic hits "Rock You
Like a Hurricane," "Bad Boys Running Wild," and "Still Loving You." The same
year, Scorpions became the first German hard rock band to play three sold out
shows at New York's Madison Square Garden, and Rolling Stone called them "the
heroes of heavy metal," admitting them to the exclusive club of the world's 30
greatest rock groups. One of the most loved and in-demand groups by their
fans, the Scorpions continue to tour the world over. The current lineup
consists of singer Klaus Meine, and guitarists Rudolf Schenker and Matthias
Jabs.
