Sting to Perform Free Concert in Central Park, September 12th

August 11, 2000 – Grammy-award winning musician Sting will perform in Central Park's East Meadow at 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 12th. The concert will be the final date in Sting's sold-out tour of the U. S. and will be the only major Central Park concert in the year 2000. Sting will distribute the first of 25,000 free tickets to the concert beginning in early September. Westwood One radio network will simulcast the concert on radio stations nationwide that evening.

Sting received two Grammys this year – Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Pop Album of the Year for his current CD Brand New Day. He is well known for his love of Manhattan, which he sings about in his hit song "An Englishman in New York." He said playing Central Park will be like "playing in his own back yard."
