Rolling Rock's 'Road to Town Fair' Winners Are Decided

Two Unsigned Bands, Welbeit and Seahollies, Will Take the Stage in Front of 40,000

July 23, 2002 — Fairfax, VA's Welbilt and Erie, PA's Seahollies will take the stage at the Rolling Rock Town Fair, July 27, and open for some of rock and funk's hottest bands. The two bands are winners of Rolling Rock beer's "Road to Town Fair" contest in which unsigned bands nationwide compete via the internet on rollingrock.com and in select Hard Rock Cafe locations for two opening-act slots at the Rolling Rock Town Fair outside of Latrobe, PA.

Andrew "Mudrock" Murdock, who has produced such artists as Godsmack and Powerman 5000, decided the finalists on behalf of Virgin Records.

This year's all-star line-up for Rolling Rock Town Fair 3.3. includes Godsmack, Outkast, Nickelback, P.O.D., Tommy Lee, Sevendust, Default and Injected.

During their sets, the Seahollies (rollingrock.com winners) and Welbilt (Hard Rock Cafe winners) will have a panel of judges from Virgin Records listening to determine which band will land a three-song demo recording session with a Virgin Records producer.

Welbilt, grand prize winner of Washington D.C.'s best local band contest, have had some practice playing before a large audience. They have been featured on the area's top radio station DC101, opened for Washington D.C.'s Chili Cook-Off and have also opened for such as acts as Puddle of Mudd, Soul Asylum and Remy Zero.

The Seahollies, formed seven years ago in Erie, PA, have enjoyed the success of their single "My Way," which has been played on their hometown radio station and in the college radio station circuit.
