July 27, 2000 – Statement from the Beastie Boys: "We have some bad news. The Rhyme and Reason 2000 tour has been postponed until further notice. Mike D was bicycling through NYC over the weekend, had a run-in with a pothole, and ended up dislocating his shoulder. After many trips to many doctors, it's been decided that Mike will need minor surgery to repair the damaged bits. Mike's going to be okay, but after the third opinion came back that 45 days of touring could cause permanent damage to his shoulder, everyone agreed the tour would have to be postponed.

"We know many will be disappointed. Please understand the band is disappointed, too. Mike has been an incredibly good sport, showing up at the Plug-in conference on Monday and everything. Meanwhile, Yauch had a nasty e-mail virus that wiped out his audio and image files, but the tour postponement is apparently unrelated to this tragedy. Dates will be rescheduled when his shoulder is fixed. We'll keep you updated as more details arise."
