Less Than Jake Part Ways with Capitol Records

Band Returns to Indie Roots by Signing with Fat Wreck Chords

July 20, 2000 – After five years with Capitol Records, Less Than Jake recently announced that they're parting ways with the major label to return to their independent roots. The group is currently in negotiations with well-respected indie Fat Wreck Chords – founded and run by NOFX frontman Fat Mike – regarding the release of their sixth studio album Borders and Boundaries, due out later this year.

Less Than Jake – Chris (vocals, guitar), Roger (vocals, bass), Vinnie (drums), Buddy (trombone), Pete (trombone) and new member Pete (baritone sax) – have staked their reputation on hard work and a fan-friendly philosophy. They strive to keep ticket and merchandise prices low and book all-ages shows whenever possible. By returning to an indie label (also run by an independent artist), LTJ will have the hands-on approach that has always been crucial to the band's success. Vinnie comments: "We've always tried to stick by what we believed in. We actually care about the people that like our band and have always tried to keep record prices low, show prices low and stay true to our ethics as a band."

Borders and Boundaries will mark Less Than Jake's sixth full-length studio album. The band has put out a total of 76 releases – most on their own Fueled By Ramen imprint – since they formed in January of 1993. Meanwhile, their two Capitol releases – Hello Rockview and Losing Streak – have both sold over 200,000 and 300,000 copies respectively. Embracing the Internet early on, LTJ were the first major label band to offer a downloadable concert series via MP3. They personally help maintain their website (www.lessthanjake.com) and consistently provide their fans with band updates and news.

Borders and Boundaries was recorded at Grand Master Studios in Los Angeles and was produced and engineered by Steve Kravac (Hello Rockview engineer) and mixed by Bill Stevenson and Stephen Egerton of the Descendents and All. When asked to describe the new songs, Vinnie sardonically says the music is "less ska, more horns, lots of poppy punk, serious lyrics, funny lyrics, slower songs, faster songs." Fans at the Vans Warped Tour can get a sneak preview of three new tracks – "Suburban Myth," "Hell Looks A Lot Like L.A." and "Gainesville Rock City" – at the listening station in the LESS THAN JAKE tent. The band will also perform on the Vans Warped Tour from August 3 through August 6.

LTJ are currently out on the road headlining with New Found Glory and the Impossibles. They'll team up with the Atari's and Zebrahead for the second leg and then Suicide Machines for the third round of dates. The current tour schedule is as follows:
