Dixie Chicks Enter Record Book for Most Weeks at #1 With Fly
July 11, 2000 The Dixie Chicks have added yet
another kudo to their vast array of accomplishments as their Monument Records
disc Fly has entered the record books as having spent the most weeks at the
No. 1 spot for a group on Billboard's Country Albums Chart.
Fly, the trio's follow-up to their nine million-plus selling album Wide
Open Spaces, has spent a record 32 weeks perched at the coveted top spot on
the albums chart. With its record-setting reign at the chart's top position,
the Dixie Chicks surpassed the previously held record of 28 weeks set by
Alabama's Feels So Right and Mountain Music albums.
"The Dixie Chicks went to great lengths to ensure Fly was an exceptional
follow-up to their nine million-selling debut album Wide Open Spaces," said
Allen Butler, President, Sony Music Nashville. "To see their efforts
validated in such a big way is so gratifying. Everyone involved with this
landmark disc especially the Chicks and their producers Blake Chancey and
Paul Worley put their heart and soul into the entire project and should be
very proud of their brilliant work."
In addition to their record-breaking chart success, the Chicks have also
been realizing unparalleled success in their first headline tour selling out
every venue (even adding additional dates in some major markets) and
consistently drawing rave reviews from both critics and their ever-growing
legion of fans. Their "Fly 2000" show brilliantly showcases the group's
incomparable merging of expert musicianship and good old-fashioned fun as
echoed by many a music writer.
" ... how in the hell did these girls get to be so damn good?," marveled
WomenOfCountry.com editor Jeff Krasky. "And when is the next plane leaving town
for where it is they're playing next? This has my vote for show of the year,
go get your tickets now while you still can!"
