Incubus Wrap Up New Effort

June 15, 2001 – Incubus have completed recording the follow-up to their platinum-plus album Make Yourself.

Slated for release October 23, the new album was written and recorded once the five bandmates became roommates for six months in an oceanview Malibu home. According to guitarist Mike Einziger, choice of location was critical.

"Our creative process is dramatically affected by atmosphere," explains Einziger. "Our previous material came from sessions in a dark, uninspiring rehearsal studio, so this time we wanted to see what it would be like to work in a beautiful house over the ocean. It made our work far more enjoyable, and it shows in the music."

To polish the effort, bandmates Einziger, front man Brandon Boyd, Dirk Lance (bass), Jose Pasillas (drums) and Chris Kilmore (turntables) once again enlisted the production skills of Scott Litt. Litt's talents are also featured on Make Yourself, which continues to sell 25,000 units per week (over 1.5 million to date) largely due to the band's latest and most successful single "Drive."

"Drive" recently surpassed the #3 and #2 positions achieved by the album's first two singles "Pardon Me" and "Stellar" to hit #1 on the Modern Rock Charts.

"The song is about going through your whole life making decisions based on fear, and imagining what it would be like if you didn't live it that way," explains Boyd.

Currently in the midst of a headlining tour in Europe, early reports from sold-out performances in London have the band previewing new songs "Warning," "Nice," "Circles," "11 am," and "Wish You Were Here."

Following dates in Europe, the band will return stateside for a stint on Moby's "Area One" tour from July 11-28, and a performance at the Rolling Rock Festival in Latrobe, PA on August 4th.

In August, the band will headline a series of shows in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand before returning for a headlining sweep of the US prior to the release of the new album -- dates to be announced soon.
