June 15, 2001 Stone Temple Pilots have announced a quick schedule surrounding the release of their new album, Shangri-LA DEE DA, due out June 19th.
Monday, June 18th, the band will launch the album with an hour-long video chat session on Yahoo! Chat. The four members -- Scott Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz -- will unveil tracks from the album and take questions from fans and the moderator, renowned rock journalist Anthony DeCurtis. The chat is slated for 9:00 -10:00 p.m. ET, and can be accessed at www.getmusic.com/alist.
Tuesday, June 19th, STP will appear at New York City's Tower Records' 692 Broadway location for an in-store event. The two-hour autographing session is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Wednesday, June 20th will start with a live interview and performance on the nationally syndicated
Howard Stern Radio Show. Later that day, the band will appear on MTV's Total Request Live, where they'll premiere the "Days of the Week" companion video clip -- directed by Kevin Kerslake, known for the band's "Interstate Love Song" and "Vaseline" clips. MTV's Total Request Live will air live from New York City at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Thursday, June 21st, STP will take part in a signing session at the MTV Store, located in the heart of Times Square at 1515 Broadway. The band will available for handshakes and autographs from 3-5 p.m. ET.
Friday, June 15th (today), AOL Music kicks off their official "Stone Temple Pilots Global Listening Party,"
which allows AOL members and fans advance access to hear "Shangri-LA DEE-DA" stream in its
entirety for four days before it hits stores. "The Stone Temple Pilots Global Listening Party" begins
streaming June 15th at 4:00 p.m. ET, and continues through Monday, June 18th.
Band members Scott Weiland and Dean DeLeo recently returned from a brief promotional trip to
Europe, a visit that included an SRO ten-song acoustic set at London's Saint Moritz -- the first STP
performance on British soil in more than six years. The full band will return to Europe in late August to
appear at a variety of festivals, in such countries as Portugal, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands.
In addition, STP are booked for a trio of headline dates in the UK, beginning August
21st at the London Astoria.
A full-scale Stone Temple Pilots tour of North America is tentatively set for the fall. At present, the
group's only official U.S. date is Saturday, August 4th, when they'll headline the Rolling Rock Town
Fair in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
"Days of the Week," the album's first single, hit radio outlets nationwide in early June. The song debuted this week as the #1-most added track at Rock, Active Rock, and Modern Rock formats nationwide.
Shangri-LA DEE DA follows Stone Temple Pilots' four previous Atlantic releases: the RIAA
platinum-certified No. 4 (1999), the double-platinum Tiny Music … Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996), the 6x-platinum Purple (1994), and the 7x-platinum debut,
Core (1992). The band has sold more than 20 million records worldwide.
Stone Temple Pilots have received a "Best Hard Rock Performance with
Vocal" Grammy Award for their #1 Mainstream Rock smash, "Plush." Other honors include two American Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award, two Billboard Video Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. Earlier this year, the band received a Grammy Award nomination in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category for "Down" (from No. 4).
