June 13, 2001 – Deftones played a "word-of-mouth-only" surprise show last Thursday in their hometown of Sacramento. The show was put together in less than 24-hours, and served as a "warm-up" for the band's upcoming U.S. tour with Godsmack. The band, who hadn't played together since their South American tour in January, performed a 75-minute "off-the-cuff" set in front of 200 friends, family, and fans who were jam-packed and sweaty in the Capitol Garage, an all-ages club in downtown Sacramento. Vocalist Chino Moreno said just before stepping on stage, "This show isn't about anything more than trying to play some music."

Deftones focused mainly on tracks from their first two albums, Adrenaline and Around the Fur, but included the songs "Digital Bath," "Feiticeira," and "Change (In the House of Flies)" from their new album, White Pony.

Moreno also played a couple of songs with Daycare, a local band that features some of his old friends; Chino and Deftones' drummer Abe Cunningham also played a few songs with Phallucy, another area band that Cunningham had been a member of in the early 1990s.

Deftones' Summer '01 tour, an eight-week jaunt across the U.S. with Godsmack, kicks off July 12 in Spokane, WA. Dates are as follows:
