Mary J. Blige Helps to Present More Than Half a Million Dollars to AIDS Charities Nationwide on Behalf of M.A.C Cosmetics AIDS Fund

M.A.C Cosmetic's Viva Glam III Spokeswoman Kicks Off Her U.S. "Mary Tour" by Presenting $50,000 to Los Angeles' Project Angel Food on June 9th

Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan to Honor Mary J. Blige and M.A.C President John Demsey by Commending their Efforts on Behalf of the M.A.C AIDS Fund

June 6, 2000 – Grammy Award-winning artist Mary J. Blige is presenting a lot more than just her highly anticipated "Mary Tour" this summer as she visits AIDS charities nationwide and presents more than a half a million dollars from the M.A.C Cosmetic's AIDS Fund. As one of the faces of Viva Glam III, M.A.C's sultry lipstick shade made exclusively to raise money for the M.A.C AIDS Fund, soulful, sexy Mary J. will make official check presentations to nine charities across the country and have a firsthand look at the strides made through the fund.

To kick off her 33-city "Mary Tour," Blige will join M.A.C President John Demsey in Los Angeles on June 9th to donate $50,000 to Project Angel Food, a charity that delivers free food to more than 1,200 men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS in the Los Angeles area. M.A.C's donation to Project Angel Food is in keeping with the company's philanthropic mission – to supply day-to-day essentials such as food, clothes, medicine, childcare and education to those living with AIDS. Mayor Richard Riordan will officially commend Mary J. Blige and John Demsey for their efforts on behalf of the M.A.C AIDS Fund and urge Angelinos to support M.A.C's campaign.

Other charities Mary J. will visit in order to reach out to volunteers and survivors along her tour include:

– Tuesday's Child (Boston, MA) on June 16th
– God's Love We Deliver (New York, NY) on June 19th
– Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (Chicago, IL) on June 23rd
– Project Open Hands/Atlanta (Atlanta, GA) on July 1st
– AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland (Cleveland, OH) on July 21st
– Open Arms Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN) on August 1st
– ANSA (Washington D.C.) on August 12th
– DIFFA Dallas (Dallas, TX) on August 19th

The M.A.C AIDS Fund will be making additional donations totaling $600,000 to local AIDS organizations, including: Camp Amerikids (Oakdale, CT); Loving Arms (Memphis, TN); Angels Foundation (Savannah, GA); Belle Reve (New Orleans, LA); AIDS Service Agency of North Carolina (Raleigh, NC); AIDS Coalition of Southern New Jersey (Camden, NJ); Michigan Jewish AIDS Project (Detroit, MI); Food Outreach (St. Louis, MO); Dishes Project Houston (Houston, TX); and Chicken Soup Brigade (Seattle, WA).

Since 1994, much of the backing for the M.A.C AIDS Fund has come from sales of its Viva Glam lipsticks, which were first introduced by performer RuPaul and then by singer k.d. lang. One hundred percent of the proceeds of Viva Glam lipsticks go to the fund, with M.A.C absorbing all production and administrative costs and M.A.C's retail partners generously foregoing their portion of the profits. Joining Mary in representing Viva Glam III is flamboyant rapper Lil' Kim who can be seen alongside Mary in Viva Glam ads.

The Viva Glam advertisements, shot by famed photographer David Lachapelle, are the only advertising M.A.C invests in for the company's entire makeup line. M.A.C currently leads the entire cosmetic industry in lipstick sales in the US. Since hitting cosmetic counters on March 16, 2000, Viva Glam III has hit record sales, already raising more than $650,000 for the Fund.

Grammy winner Mary J. Blige, known as the queen of hip-hop soul, became an instant sensation with her 1992 debut album, What's the 411. Her current album, Mary, was nominated for three Grammies.
