Our Lady Peace Hit the Road in Support of New Album
May 20, 2002
With the group's fifth studio album, Gravity, hitting the stores June 18, Our Lady
Peace have hit the road for a series of performances beginning May 15-16
with a two-night stand at the Asylum in Dayton, Ohio (complete tour
itinerary follows). The tour includes radio festival gigs
and headlining club shows.
Produced by Bob Rock (Metallica) and mixed by Randy Staub (Nickelback),
Gravity was recorded over the course of 10 weeks (the quickest of any OLP
album) in late 2001/early 2002 at Rock's Plantation Studios in Maui. The
band utilized the vintage gear in Rock's studio -- including an amp used by
Pete Townshend, the guitar played by Billy Duffy in the Cult's "She Sells
Sanctuary" video as well as guitars and amps deployed by Metallica and the
Cult -- to capture the energy and spirit of Our Lady Peace's live concerts.
"Somewhere Out There," the first single from Gravity, has already gone
Top 10 on the Modern Rock Track's chart and is scaling both the Mainstream
Rock and the Active Rock charts. The band shot a video for the track in
Montreal in late April with director Eric Heimbold whose resume includes
the Baha Men's "Who Let The Dogs Out" and the Brian Setzer Orchestra's
"Jump Jive An' Wail," among others.
Spiritual Machines, the band's fourth record was released in the US March
13th, 2001. The album was certified platinum in the band's native Canada just four weeks after its release. (Spiritual Machines achieved platinum status more rapidly than any record in the OLP catalog.) The band hit the road in support of the album and toured in the
US until fall of last year.
Our Lady Peace's first album, Naveed (released on Relativity in the U.S.
in 1995), generated the Top 10 Modern Rock and Active Rock hit, "Starseed."
and went on to sell more than half a million copies worldwide.
The band's second album, Clumsy, was released in 1997 and entered the
Canadian sales charts at #1. The record has sold some 2.5 million units
worldwide and achieved Diamond status in Canada with sales of more than
1,000,000 copies. Clumsy contained "Superman's Dead" and "Clumsy" which
were Top 5 Modern Rock Tracks in the U.S.
Happiness... Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch was released in 1999 and
the album debuted at #1 in the Canadian sales charts, this time ahead of
Nine Inch Nails, Chris Cornell, Tori Amos and other albums released that
week. "One Man Army," the first single from "Happiness... ", went Top 10 on
Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks; "Is Anybody Home?" went to #20 on that
chart. Following this release, Our Lady Peace joined in celebrating the
30th anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival.
