Ex-Clash Frontman Joe Strummer Releases New Album, Global a Go-Go, July 24
May 22, 2001 Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros are gearing up for the release of their
second album on Hellcat Records/Epitaph, July 24. The disc, Global A
Go-Go, features 11 original tracks that mix musical styles from around the world.
The band Joe Strummer, Pablo Cook, Martin Slattery, Scott Shields and Tymon Dogg and associate member Richard Flack has created a swirling blend of guitars, ethnic percussion and hints of electronica that is very distinctly Joe Strummer.
The lyrics find the ex-Clash frontman free-associating his way through a world filled with conflict and abuse, but somehow tied together by the power of music. The title track, for instance, tells a tale of a global DJ having freedom of the airwaves, not only abolishing geographical boundaries, but stylistic boundaries as well. It describes a world where music is played without the imposed restrictions of specific formats that are all-too well known in today's market.
