Ministry Release a Greatest Fits Collection

Steven Spielberg's New Film A.I. Features the Band's New Track "What About Us?"

CD in Stores June 19, Film in Theaters June 29, 2001

May 17, 2001

Industrial hard-rockers, Ministry – Al Jourgensen (guitars/vox), Paul Barker (bass/vox/programming) – will unleash a compilation album titled Ministry's Greatest Fits, June 19, 2001. The disc features the new tune "What About Us?" which Ministry perform in a key scene in the Steven Spielberg film A.I., debuting nationwide June 29, 2001.

"I understand there was a list of 40 acts being considered for the role," said bassist and cohort Paul Barker, "but by the powers of hypnotism, and us sneaking into certain peoples houses at night whispering our name in their ears, we were lucky enough to be chosen."

"When we went to the soundstage to do our thing last October, virtually everybody from grips to light guys told us how happy they were that we were doing it," said Barker. "It was wonderful to hear, and it says something about our legacy and history because a lot of those people would've grown-up with us in the late '80s and early '90s."

The Greatest Fits album comprises 13 cuts of prime Ministry music spanning their Warner Bros. career from 1987 to present. It contains favorites such as "Just One Fix" and "Thieves" as well as some rarities, including a fresh cover of "Supernaut," re-recorded last year, and an unreleased live version of "So What."

"Greatest Fits presents a cross-section of Ministry music for people who might not be familiar with Ministry but become exposed to us through A.I. And of course we couldn't bear to just have album versions of everything, so there are a couple of tasty things to be found for sure."

The band is currently in the studio working on new material, for an early 2002 release and plan to tour this fall.

On A.I., Ministry did work with the icon himself. "[Speilberg] came on-stage, told us what he wanted us to do and joked around with us," said Barker. "So we gave him a Dark Side of the Spoon T-shirt, and he wore it on the last day of shooting. That was pretty great."
