Stone Temple Pilots Have New Album on the Horizon
May 11, 2001 Stone Temple Pilots' fifth release,
Shangri-LA DEE DA (Atlantic Records), is due in stores on June 19th.
Produced by longtime STP studio collaborator Brendan O'Brien (Pearl
Jam, Rage Against The Machine), Shangri-LA DEE DA finds the
California-based quartet -- Scott Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric
Kretz -- continuing to carve out their own unique musical terrain, blending
hard riffs, psychedelic experimentation, punk energy, and Beatlesque
melodies. Taking its title from the Malibu villa-cum-studio where it was conceived and
recorded, the album includes cuts such as "Hollywood Bitch" and "Wonderful,"
along with numbers that evince the band's interest in legendary Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos
Jobim. All songs on Shangri-LA DEE DA were written by Stone Temple
Pilots.
The album's first single, the power pop-infused "Days of the Week," is set
to hit Active and Modern Rock radio outlets nationwide in early June. A
companion video clip is currently in production.
Shangri-LA DEE DA follows Stone Temple Pilots' four previous Atlantic
releases: the RIAA platinum-certified No. 4 (1999), the double-platinum
Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996), the 6x-platinum
Purple (1994), and the 7x-platinum debut, Core (1992). The band has sold
more than 20 million records worldwide.
Among their many accomplishments, Stone Temple Pilots received a "Best Hard Rock
Performance with Vocal" Grammy Award for their #1 Mainstream Rock smash,
"Plush." Other honors over the years include two
American Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award, two Billboard Video
Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. Earlier this year, the band received
a Grammy Award nomination in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category for
"Down" (from No. 4).
The complete track listing for Shangri-LA DEE DA is... "Dumb Love" * "Days
of the Week" * "Coma" * "Hollywood Bitch" * "Wonderful" * "Black Again" *
"Hello, It's Late" * "Too Cool Queenie" * "Regeneration" * "Bi-Polar Bear" *
