The Guess Who Announce Plans for the "American Woman" Tour with Joe Cocker
Classic Line-up of Group Set to Appear on Nationally Syndicated "Rockline" Radio Show, Wednesday, June 13
May 10, 2001 The recently reunited the Guess Who (Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman, Garry Peterson, Donnie McDougall, and Bill Wallace) have announced plans for an extensive summer trek with Joe Cocker. Dubbed the "American Woman" tour, this marks the Guess Who's first major excursion with their classic line-up on U.S. soil since 1970. The tour is expected to kick off in early July. The group toured their Canadian homeland last year where they released the platinum double-live CD Running Back Through Canada.
Meanwhile, fans can catch the group Wednesday, June 13, on "Rockline," the nationally syndicated radio show heard across the U.S. and Canada. The Guess Who will also perform Thursday, June 14, at the kick-off of the Radio and Records music convention in Los Angeles.
News of the Guess Who tour comes on the heels of a PBS concert film featuring the group which debuted on the channel in March and will air as a major fundraiser in August. Shot last year during the band's sold-out 24-city summer 2000 "Running Back Through Canada" trek, the program features the classic hitmakers ("American Woman," "These Eyes," "No Sugar Tonight" and "Share The Land") in fine form.
The Guess Who have also experienced a resurgence of late as the band's music has been heard in movies such as The Spy Who Shagged Me, American Beauty and Almost Famous. In addition, Lenny Kravitz had massive success (including a 1999 Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance) by covering "American Woman," the group's number-one single.
Specific dates and venues for the Guess Who's summer tour are TBA. Stay tuned.
