3 Doors Down Headline the Cutty Sark "Rock the Boat" Concert Tour
May 29, 2000 The second annual Cutty Sark "Rock the Boat" Concert Tour kicks off tomorrow in Des Moines, Iowa.
The tour will feature one of today's hottest bands 3 Doors Down a five-man rock group from Escatawpa, Mississippi.
When a radio station in Biloxi, Mississippi started getting requests for a song by a band from nearby Escatawpa, the staff figured the calls were coming
from the group's friends and family. But then the numbers of calls exploded, and the requests to radio stations nationwide haven't stopped since.
The band's first album, The Better Life, debuted at #1 on Billboard's Heatseeker music
chart in February and in just 13 weeks has gone platinum. Their single, "Kryptonite," has gone to #1 in four radio formats Active Rock, Album Rock, Heritage Rock and Modern Rock. They are the first debut act in the history of the charts to accomplish this feat. The band's video for "Kryptonite" debuted on MTV in April.
Following in their own tour bus will be the Cutty Girls who will help "rock the boat" with audience giveaways of free Cutty Sark tee shirts, hats and tattoos while providing concert updates via the Cutty Sark web site http://www.cutty-sarkusa.com. The Cutty Girls will be promoting Cutty Coolers, a cool summer drink which is a mix of Cutty Sark and lemonade, and will be available at all venue bars throughout the tour.
"The Cutty Sark 'Rock the Boat' Tour features all of the elements for a perfect summer concert," says Marty Fettig, Cutty Sark's Brand Director. "3 Doors Down, great fans and Cutty Sark."
Fettig says, "We are thrilled to have 3 Doors Down as our headliner for this year's tour. Cutty Sark is committed to supporting and promoting alternative music and emerging artists." Some of the 40 cities the "Rock the Boat" concert tour will visit this spring and summer include New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New Orleans, Atlanta, Kansas City, Cleveland, Denver and San Francisco.
The Cutty Sark "Rock the Boat" Bus a plushly appointed touring bus "wrapped" in a Cutty Sark logo will feature a 10-foot-tall Vargas-inspired Cutty Girl from the brand's advertising campaign. The bus will be the home away from home for the Cutty Girls as they travel city-to-city to promote the tour.
