Live Win Big in Holland
The Band to Headline Pinkpop Festival June 12th
May 15, 2000 Live have recently returned from Europe with another major success under their belts, this time in Holland. The band received the prestigious Edison Award, Holland's equivalent of the Grammy, for Best International Band.
In addition, the following week's TMF Awards (Dutch MTV) also proved a shining moment for Live as they clinched the network's annual award for Best International Band, this time, beating out Korn and the Offspring. In addition, the group won the TMF for Best International Video for "The Dolphin's Cry," a monstrous tidal wave of a work directed by Martin Weisz. Warranted by the success the band has had in the Netherlands (where The Distance To Here debuted at #2, and is in the Top 3 eight months after release and is currently approaching double platinum status), Live performed three songs on the awards show: "The Dolphin's Cry," "Run to the Water," and a stellar rendering of "I Alone" sharing the stage with Dutch superstar Anouk.
The band is also set to headline Holland's massive Pinkpop Festival June 12th, billed over Pearl Jam,
Oasis and Bush, not to mention four more prestigious German festivals and a main billing at the UK's Glastonbury Festival's 30th anniversary.
Live is currently on a college tour of the Midwest and will embark on a North American summer co-headlining amphitheater tour with the Counting Crows and special guests Galactic. The tour's sprawling agenda will kick off at Kansas City's Sandstone Amphitheater on Friday, July 28th and the first leg will continue through September 3rd at Merriweather Post in Washington, DC. The second leg is scheduled to begin on September 12th and will run through October. Details on these additional dates will be announced soon.
