Santana's "Maria Maria" Is Named Longest-Running #1 Single of the Year on Billboard Hot 100

Supernatural Album Passes RIAA Diamond Certification to 12-times Platinum In U.S., with Nearly 20 Million Copies Sold Worldwide

Macy Gray Is Opening Santana's World Tour

May 10, 2000 – Santana's current single, the Grammy award-winning RIAA platinum "Maria Maria," has become the longest-running #1 hit of this year as it moves into its 6th consecutive week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart (beating the 5-weeks previously posted by Destiny's Child's "Say My Name"). "Maria Maria" builds upon the record-setting success of the triple Grammy-winning hit "Smooth," the first #1 single of Santana's career and Soundscan's longest-running #1 pop single of last year at 12 consecutive weeks.

"Maria Maria," featuring Wyclef Jean proteges the Product G&B, and "Smooth," co-written by and featuring Rob Thomas of matchbox 20, are both included on the double Grammy-winning Supernatural album, produced by Clive Davis and Carlos Santana. The album, which took only 35 weeks to reach RIAA diamond (10 million) certification on March 3rd, has already surpassed 12-times platinum in the U.S., with nearly 20 million copies sold worldwide.

At 46 weeks on the Billboard 200 Album chart, Supernatural has spent more than 30 weeks inside the top 10, where it is listed at #6 this week. At the same time, "Smooth"'s 42-week run on the Hot 100 includes 19 additional weeks inside the top 20 since completing its reign at #1.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Santana kicked-off their world tour April 22nd in Tokyo. In early summer, the tour heads to Europe, where the album has gone to #1 on the pan-Euro Music & Media chart, and hit #1 in Austria, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Finland, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland. The 22-city North American leg of the tour, already completely sold-out in advance, will open in West Palm Beach, FL, July 20th. Opening on-tour for Santana is Macy Gray.
