April 30, 2002
Area2, the festival spearheaded by Moby last year in the form of Area: One, returns with a lineup that features David Bowie, Moby, Busta Rhymes, Carl Cox and many others. The festival will kick off in Washington, DC, July 28, and will visit 12 cities throughout the summer.
In 2001, the Area: One Festival was awarded the Dancestar Award for "2001 Tour of the Year." Inspired and led by Moby, last year's festival featured a diverse mix of handpicked artists including Outkast, the Roots, Nelly Furtado, Incubus, New Order, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Rinocerose, the Orb, Detroit Innovators (Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Juan Atkins) and Timo Maas.
"My goal with the Area Festival is to put together a festival that's genuinely interesting and eclectic, and I think that with this year's line-up, we've more than surpassed ourselves." -- Moby
With many sold-out dates across the country, Area: One brought together a unique mix of everything from rock, pop, hip-hop, electronic, trance and progressive dance music.
"Any show that features Incubus, Outkast and Moby playing in succession has to be lauded for its eclecticism." -- Los Angeles Times
"It's like an individuality tour." -- Nelly Furtado
This year, Area2 is equally as diverse as last year's and will include David Bowie, Moby, Busta Rhymes, John Digweed, DJ Tiesto, the Avalanches, DJ Dan , DJ Tim Skinner and the return of Carl Cox with more acts to be announced shortly.
Music fans will also be treated to new material by Moby, who will soon be releasing 18 (V2 Records), the follow-up to Play. David Bowie will also be releasing a new CD, Heathen (Columbia Records), June 11.
DJs on the scene will keep the beat going throughout the day and well into the night as they spin to crowds in the super surround sound Quad DJ tent.
