Jewel Injured in Horse Riding Accident
April 26, 2002
Jewel was injured yesterday when she was
thrown from a horse in Texas, sustaining a broken collarbone and first rib,
as well as bruises. She has been treated by an orthopedic surgeon in Dallas
and, fortunately, her injuries are not life threatening or permanent. Jewel
was visiting her boyfriend, rodeo champion Ty Murray, at his ranch in
central Texas when the accident occurred. A lifelong horse rider, Jewel was
taking a brief break from traveling the world in support of her latest RIAA
platinum album, This Way.
Jewel's next scheduled concert appearance was to have been this
Saturday, April 27th, at Los Angeles radio station STAR 98.7 FM's "Fan
Nation 2" concert in Irvine, California. Due to the accident, Jewel has had
to cancel this performance, where she was to debut her new single, "Break
Me." She still plans, however, to embark on her European tour, which
is slated to begin May 10th. According to her doctor, she should be able
to sing within two weeks, although it will be four to six weeks before she
can play guitar. In the meantime, Jewel's guitar parts will be played by
her band. Jewel should be able to resume playing guitar in time for the
opening of her North American tour on June 14th. A full recovery is
expected within 12 weeks.
