Eminem Wins Two Detroit Music Awards
April 7, 2001 Multi-Platinum rapper Eminem picked up
awards in two categories at the 11th annual Detroit Music Awards Friday night
at the State Theatre in Downtown Detroit. The show also featured a
performance by the Grammy Award winner's group D-12.
Other winners included Marshall Crenshaw in the category of Best
Compilation; Alberta Adams for Best Blues Recording and Best Blues Vocalist;
Brothers Groove for Best Jazz Recording and Best Jazz Group; Lisa Hunter, Best
Acoustic Recording; Broadzilla, Best Hard Rock Act; and Fred Hammond, Best
Gospel Recording.
Over seventy awards were handed out in an evening which celebrates the
talent and diversity of the Detroit Music Community. Distinguished
Achievement Awards were presented to Motown songwriting great, Barrett Strong,
the late Blues hero Willie D. Warren, and longtime WRIF disc jockey Arthur
Penhallow.
The Detroit Music Awards are coordinated and produced by Motor City Music
Foundation, a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to nurturing and
promoting local music and musicians.
