Lenny Kravitz Marks Another Milestone With His Double Platinum 5 As Album Passes Its 100th Week on the Billboard Top 200
April 26, 2000 Lenny Kravitz marks yet another career milestone this week: his double platinum, Grammy-winning album 5 marks its 100th week on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.
Of special note is the fact that 5 sits in the upper half of the 200 after almost two years, something only four other artists can cite. This week, the album climbs to Number 72, continuing a steady rise over the last month. Almost two years after entering the chart, 5 continues to sell briskly as it moves 20,000 units this week alone.
5 is being fueled by yet another hit single and video "I Belong To You." The song is being played by over two hundred of the nation's top pop and adult contemporary radio stations, and the video is in rotation at all the major video channels, including MTV, VH1, and the Box.
In tandem with "I Belong To You," two Grammy-winning songs are helping propel the album's sales. 5 contains both "Fly Away" and "American Woman," which won Grammys for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male at the 1999 and 2000 Grammy ceremonies, respectively. He is nominated for a Blockbuster Award for "Favorite Artist/Modern Rock" for 5, which will be handed out on May 9, 2000.
Lenny is just back from a triumphant visit to South Africa where he headlined Big Nite Out at the Johannesburg Stadium on Friday, 17 March 2000. He also performed to packed houses at Absa Stadium in Durban on March 19, and finally Greenpoint Stadium in historic Cape Town on March 21. He will be performing at Los Angeles radio station KISS-FM's Wango Tango summer concert May 13 at Dodger Stadium.
