Splender's Guitars Stolen

April 5, 2000 – En route to Los Angeles for a video shoot, Splender – Waymon Boone (lead vocals, guitar), Jonathan Svec (lead guitar), James Cruz (bass) and Marc Slutsky (drums) – had two guitars stolen off their American Airlines flight. One was a Fender Telecaster 1952 re-issue model and the other was a one-of-a-kind bass guitar that was custom-built for James. The band members – who are offering a reward for the return of the guitars, with no questions asked – were traveling from New York to L.A. to shoot a video with director Chris Applebaum (Lit, Semisonic, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Luscious Jackson) for their new single "I Think God Can Explain." Taken from their debut album, Halfway Down the Sky (C2/Columbia), the song was the #1 most added track at Adult Top 40/Hot AC radio the week of March 13 and continues to gain momentum at stations including KYSR/Star 98.7 (Los Angeles) and WPLJ (New York City). Splender will tour the East Coast in April and May with various radio show events and festivals – such as the Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta on May 6 – as well as a string of dates with Vertical Horizon, including a gig May 16 at Irving Plaza in New York City.
