Rock for Choice mobilizes the music community to protect abortion rights and women's health clinics. The project gives young adults an opportunity to fight back by encouraging them to get educated and active in the fight for reproductive rights and to register to vote.
This Rock for Choice concert comes at a critical time as never before has the right to safe, legal abortion been in greater jeopardy. For the fist time since the U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion, the President, and leadership of both houses of Congress are anti-choice. Moreover, rumors abound that a Supreme Court Justice will step down as soon as this summer. President Bush has made it clear he intends to appoint anti-abortion Justices. The appointment of even one more anti-abortion Justice could easily result in the reversal of Roe v. Wade.
The Feminist Majority's Save Roe Campaign is a national effort to raise public awareness about the impending threat to abortion rights and to build the will among Senate leadership to filibuster and block any anti-choice nomination. Thousands of student activists at hundreds of public, private, and community college campuses nationwide are participating in this urgent effort through the Feminist Leadership Alliance.
