Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Tour Launches February 6

February 5, 2002 — Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young will take to the road once again for their nationwide "Tour of America." Kicking off February 6th in Auburn Hills, Michigan for a 2-1/2 month itinerary.

The 2002 dates follow their 2000 reunion tour, which at the time marked their first live shows together in over a quarter century. The sold-out Y2K concerts came about as a result of the rekindled excitement the foursome experienced while recording 1999's CD Looking Forward, their first joint album project since 1988's American Dream.

Upwards of half a million people witnessed CSNY's millennial performances night after night. Neil Young said, "There's something that happens when we're together," and David Crosby believes that what happened in '00 resulted in " ... possibly the best work we've ever done."

CSNY's storied three-decade-plus partnership is one of the most revered and enduring in the history of rock 'n' roll. A true supergroup for the ages, each member brought to the table a pedigree form their own hugely popular band -- Crosby from The Byrds, Nash from The Hollies, and Stills and Young from Buffalo Springfield. Their first album together, 1970's Déjà vu, is one of the all-time greats, every track a timeless classic including Crosby's "Almost Cut My Hair," Stills' "Carry On," Nash's "Teach Your Children," and Young's "Helpless." Together, their combined talents drove each other's work to new heights, a synergy that remains as true today as ever.

Their 2002 tour was originally slated to launch much later in the year. Shortly after September 11, 2001, however, Stephen Stills remembers that Neil Young -- who recently released the single "Let's Roll," inspired by United flight 93 passenger Todd Beamer's now historic call to action -- rallied the CSNY troops for an earlier start, and a new itinerary was put together. Graham Nash, acknowledging the healing power of music, commented that "People really want to ... get away from the news, and I think we can provide two or three hours of constant comforting music for them -- that's why we're going out."

Over the years, both in concert and on record, the four friends and collaborators -- all of them Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famers -- have worked together in various configurations and flexed their artistic muscles on scores of solo projects as well.
