The Donnas Sign with Atlantic Records
February 5, 2002
After five years with indie label, Lookout! Records, the Donnas have signed a long-term worldwide deal with Atlantic Records. The group plans a late summer release on Atlantic Records.
From their origins as elementary school friends and early musicians in the
fifth and sixth grades in Palo Alto, CA, to their current status as an important underground band, the Donnas have become a sought-after band by major labels. The decision to move from the punk label to Atlantic was an amicable one.
The Donnas said, "Lookout! Records has been the perfect label for us for the last five years and we have very close friends there. We've always been a band who wanted to reach the largest audience possible and Atlantic will help us do that. We are and always will be part of of the 'fun generation'."
Lookout! Records president Christopher Appelgren commented, "The Donnas helped redefine Lookout! as a label with their irreverent and irresistible rock 'n' roll style. I know I speak for everyone at Lookout! when I wish them the best of luck in the future. Working with them is incredible.
They're articulate, intelligent, funny and they rock.."
The Donnas will be writing their next album for the remainder of January
and February. They will enter San Francisco's Toast Studios in March 2002
with producer Robert Shimp and recording in March and April . They will be headlining the Noise Pop Festival in San Francisco, Saturday night, March 2, 2002.
The Donnas are Brett Anderson (aka Donna A): vocals; Allison Robertson (Donna R): guitars; Maya Ford (Donna F): bass; and Torry Castellano (Donna C): drums.
Albums include American Teenage Rock & Roll Machine (1998), Get Skintight
(1999), and The Donnas Turn 21 (2001).
