Me First and the Gimme Gimmes -- a punk rock all-star band featuring band members of NOFX, Foo Fighters, Lagwagon and Swingin' Utters who cover pop songs from the past -- will release their third full-length CD Blow in the Wind March 20 on Fat Wreck Chords.

Blow in the Wind is a collection of 14 '60s pop songs including hits from The Shirelles, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Cat Stevens and The Turtles, among others. Why did the band opt for '60s covers this time around? "We wanted to do a 60's album cuz the '60s should be remembered for great songs not stinkin' hippies," bassist Fat Mike says sarcastically. "Other bands rip off and re-hash old melodies and riffs. At least when we do it, it's word for word and note for note," continues vocalist Spike Slawson. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes -- vocalist Spike (Swinging Utters), bassist Fat Mike (NOFX), guitarist Jackson aka Chris Shifflet (Foo Fighters), drummer Dave Raun (Lagwagon) and guitarist Joey Cape (Lagwagon) -- formed in 1995 in an effort to breathe some punk rock life into classic radio hits made famous by pioneers like Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond. The group's first full-length release Have a Ball (1997) featured hits from the '70s, while 1999's Are a Drag showcased punk-a-fied showtunes from Grease, Annie and Evita. Each of the band's previous releases have sold a respectable 200,000 copies worldwide.
