Exotic Ensembles at True: The Ophelia Unbound Fashion Show by Spyder Darling

Fashion Week is as much a part of Autumn in New York City as the changing of the leaves and the Knicks return to Madison Square Garden. Doing her part to heat up haute couture, fashion designer Michelle Korn exhibited her Spring 2001 collection last month in her "Ophelia Unbound" show. Models trotted along the makeshift stage and catwalk in the glittery velvet confines of True at 28 East 23rd Street. The show impressed an attractive array of those in the know, those who wish they were, and those just looking for free champagne.

Separated into two acts, "Tutankhaman's Cabaret" and "Audrey at the Met," the event was hosted by Dominatrix MC Jennifer Miro, nymphet assistant Kris Yitrif (who insists she's just a "sweet girl from Seattle") and Rope Mistress Ophelia Unbound.

The girls devilishly displayed over 40 of Michelle Korn's most exotic ensembles. The outfits in Act One were Egyptian in theme. Rarely have Ultrasuede, metallic and crushed silks been put to more stylish use. Act Two's wares were sleeker, sexier, made of petal silks, sequins and still more Ultrasuede. Is stunning the right word? Probably not, but close enough.

The models, a Lean Cuisine dream team if ever there was one, turned and pouted to well-practiced perfection while D.J. Scott Varol spun a metallic mix of Marilyn Manson, Rolling Stones, Guns 'n Roses, and, of course, Madonna. Scott managed to get the show into its glitzy groove from the first slither of "Sweet Dreams" to the last conga slap of "Sympathy for the Devil."

As designers go, I'm more of a classics man myself, Pierre Cardin, YSL and, of course, Sal (Salvation Army). Let's just say that Michelle Korn has got a long row to hoe before her designs are mentioned in the same breath as the big boys. But now that Ophelia's been Unbound, Korn's row just got a little shorter.
