Introduced by a K-Rock radio personality who whipped out his family jewels the size of baby walnuts Papa Roach took to the stage ready to body blow the audience to pieces. Like an explosive team of beat meisters, the band exterminated eardrums with a pummel of metallic riffs and angst-ridden lyrics that cut to the core of teenage wasteland. With songs on overcoming alienation and life's setbacks, nice-guy singer Coby Dick was like a preacher of the church of hardcore, punk, funk, and hip-hop, all unleashed by guitarist Jerry Horton, bassist Tobin Esperance and drummer David Buckner. Unpredictable and fearless, the band pushed the beast forward in a full-throttled frenzy as grinding guitars and punishing rhythms tore through to the bone.

Guzzling a beer in five seconds before launching into the reggae-inspired "Tightrope," Coby belched a few times adding, "by no means am I a role model." The song combined reggae beats and metal into an interesting mix, while the lyrics covered madness, homicidal minds and cyber sluts (whatever that is). A cover of Faith No More's "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies" was next, a fierce grooving number handled like a charm.
The punked-up tune "Dead Cell" had the crowd's fists pumping with middle fingers raised in unison and on beat, while "Broken Home" had echo-drenched guitars peaking in a tale of pain. To show their appreciation of this last number, some lovelies in the balcony disposed of their bras, and then exposed their luscious melons to the delight and cheers of the hungry males below.

The self-loathing "Last Resort" ended the set with a full-blown assault on mind and matter. Punch drunk and exhausted, singer Coby stared at the crowd, thanked it profusely and then disappeared via stage left, offering no encore or excuses.
Earlier in the night, opening-band Alien Ant Farm infested the masses with its own aggressive vocals and commanding stage presence. Bassist Tye Zamora lumbered across the stage like Gene Simmons of Kiss as he matched each note with a grimace and bug-eyed stare. During "Movies," singer Dryden Mitchell took to the crowd, miraculously managing to return just in time for the chorus.
For those who can't get enough, Papa Roach will be headlining this summer's Ozzfest along with Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson and the Ozzman himself. While Alien Ant Farm will be featured this summer's Vans Warped Tour. Can't wait.
