NY Rock Newsletter Numba 10 by Otto Luck
July 2001
By now, I'm sure you're painfully aware of
the latest breed of internet advertising,
the all-too pervasive pop-up window. Instead
of fighting it, however, NY Rock would like
to put its own stamp on the trend with the
following lovely new varieties of pop-up ads:
- The Perma-Popper. This ad actually writes
itself to your computer's memory and pops up
every time you start your machine. No, make
that every time you click your mouse. No, make
that every two seconds. The possibilities are
endless....
- Electro-Pop Therapy. Manages to give the
user a little shock in the ass followed by a
cutesy slogan such as "Our product is
shockingly good, etc." Now we're getting
somewhere.
- The Top-of-the-Popper from Hell. Blows up
your machine. Destroys every file and peripheral
connected to your computer. The only thing that
keeps working is that damn pop-up ad.
- The Mother-of-All Pop-Ups. This is the
pop-up of the future. Manages to write itself
to every digital device in and around your
home including your DVD player, your car and,
who knows, maybe even your fridge and toaster.
Want a little snack? There's that pop-up again.
Going for a little drive? Pop-up time once more.
Going to the john to take care of business?
You can expect a pop-up or two with every flush.
There's simply no escape....
Then again, if interested in a pop-up free
experience, you can always check out NY Rock
where this month's content
includes....
